Midwest School Social Work Council

The Midwest School Social Work Conference was formed in 1967. Later the name of the organization was changed to the Midwest School Social Work Council. In 1968 it hosted a highly successful conference which led to annual Midwest Conferences which are held each fall on a rotating basis in member states.  Between 1968 and 1976 conference proceedings were published. Participants in the conference received the proceedings many months after the conference was held. This was before there were any journals focusing on school social work. The current two national journals were started in 1978 (School Social Work Journal) and 1979 (Social Work in Education - Children and Schools). After the 1976 proceedings they were dropped in part because of the cost and time required.  Also included in this page are a number of position papers by the council published in 1996. There are also two histories of the Council prepared in the 1970's.
